FBI report reveals that schools and college campuses are the third most common location for hate crimes, with over 30% of juvenile victims targeted at school. The most common bias type reported was anti-Black hate, followed by anti-Jewish and anti-LGBTQ+ offenses. The report also found that intimidation and destruction/vandalism were the most commonly reported offenses. The FBI hopes to use this data to inform strategies to prevent hate crimes in the future and is encouraging local communities to take action. However, the report does not include data from 2023, a year marked by increased tensions on college campuses due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. A separate analysis of this data will be released in a blog format.
