Senators criticize Mark Zuckerberg for not safeguarding children on the internet.

Social media giants, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, will be testifying before lawmakers on Wednesday to defend their practices for protecting children online. Zuckerberg will highlight the positive aspects of using Facebook and Instagram, while also touting the company’s investment in child safety measures. Meta has spent $5 billion on safety and security in 2023 alone and has over 30 tools and resources to help keep teens safe. However, lawmakers are calling for more accountability and measures to curb the spread of child sexual abuse images online. The hearing was announced in November by Senators Dick Durbin and Lindsey Graham, who stated that “big tech’s failure to protect our kids cannot go unanswered.”
