The Office of the Comptroller in Puerto Rico and the US Department of Labor have renewed their arrangement to exchange information and resources regarding salary-related matters.

Partnership Description: A Memorandum of Understanding between the Wage and Hour Division and the Office of the Comptroller of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico solidifies their collaborative partnership to effectively and efficiently communicate and cooperate on areas of mutual interest. This partnership aims to promote compliance with both U.S. and Commonwealth laws among the regulated community in Puerto Rico. Activities include sharing jurisdictional information, providing support in referrals, and conducting joint investigations and cross-training of personnel from both agencies. The agreement was signed by Julio J. Dávila Bravo, Rocío J. de Jesús Gómez (Comptroller’s Office), Ivonne Rivera (Wage and Hour Division Senior Investigator), José R. Vázquez (Wage and Hour Division Caribbean District Director), Yesmín M. Valdivieso (Comptroller of Puerto Rico), Mayra L. Nigaglioni, and José Maldonado (Comptroller’s Office).
Quote: “This agreement continues the joint efforts of the Wage and Hour Division and the Office of the Comptroller to educate workers and employers and ensure compliance with federal and territorial laws in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico,” stated Wage and Hour Division Director José R. Vázquez in Guaynabo.
Duration: The agreement will remain in effect until November 23, 2028.
Background: The Wage and Hour Division is responsible for enforcing federal laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Davis Bacon Act, the Service Contract Act, and wage garnishment provisions of the Consumer Credit Protection Act. The Office of the Comptroller is responsible for auditing all revenues, accounts, and disbursements of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, its agencies and instrumentalities, and its municipalities to ensure compliance with Commonwealth laws.
