The year 2023 marks the arrival of unprecedented levels of investments and avenues for funding that aim to bolster the competitiveness of the United States and generate employment opportunities that offer attractive wages.

2023 was a groundbreaking year for American competitiveness and job creation, thanks to President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. Record investments and funding opportunities were brought in to support communities and workers, resulting in significant success for American businesses and workers.

One of the major achievements of 2023 was the implementation of the $50 billion CHIPS for America Program, which aimed to revitalize the U.S. position in semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing. This program received over 550 Statements of Interest from companies across the nation, showcasing the high demand for this initiative.

In addition, the BEAD Program received a $42.45 billion investment to bring affordable and reliable high-speed internet service to every home, business, and school in America. This program will not only improve connectivity but also create job opportunities in the technology sector.

Furthermore, 31 Tech Hubs were designated across the nation, thanks to a $2.6 billion funding from the Inflation Reduction Act. This investment will support climate-ready coasts and communities, promoting sustainable growth and job creation.

The U.S. Department of Commerce also announced grants of $1 billion to support coastal and climate resilience, $1.3 billion to close the digital divide, and the forty-three winners of the Capital Readiness Program grant competition. This is the largest investment in Commerce’s history to support minority and underserved businesses, promoting economic equity and job opportunities.

Moreover, additional funding opportunities were announced in 2023 to accelerate innovation, invest in minority and underserved businesses, and revitalize the manufacturing industry. These initiatives will create good-paying jobs for American workers and empower them with the necessary tools and training to thrive in the modern economy.

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo expressed her excitement for the progress made in 2023 and the potential for even more transformational changes in 2024. She highlighted the major achievements of the year, including the CHIPS for America program, which moved into the next phase of implementation in December.

Overall, 2023 was a year of significant progress in revitalizing American competitiveness and creating good-paying jobs. However, there is still more work to be done to ensure that the nation is well-equipped to thrive in the 21st century.
