Twelve Months Focused on Advancing Innovation for the Benefit of American Laborers

Evmark Business Solutions

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) has been diligently working over the past year to serve America’s workforce through technology, both in visible and behind-the-scenes ways. As we approach the end of 2023, we are proud to share some of the Department of Labor’s projects that we have supported.

Serving Workers

We have modernized and updated IT solutions to provide training options, promote on-the-job safety, and improve the efficiency of tracking work hours and pay.

New Grants Management System: OCIO has replaced an outdated IT system, streamlining the process for our various grant-making divisions and making it easier for individuals to identify and apply for work training grants.

Apps for America’s Workers: We regularly update our in-app functions to provide job-related support on mobile devices.

DOL-Timesheet App: This timekeeping system allows employees to track their hours and overtime pay, and employers to easily log in their staff members.

Latest Version: We have updated the resources available in Spanish.

CareerInfo App: This app provides data and information about employment, pay, career outlook, required skills and experience, typical education, and more for hundreds of detailed occupations.

Latest Version: We have added the ability to search by ZIP code or GPS location.

Miner Safety & Health App: This app gives miners direct access to their rights and responsibilities, safety and health best practices, and information about mine accidents.

Latest Version: We have added new “Safety Alerts” and push notifications.

Supporting Job Seekers

Whether it’s online or in person, we have developed helpful tools to support job seekers in navigating their job search or applying for jobless benefits.

New Ways to Verify Identity for Unemployment Insurance Benefits: The Labor Department has added convenient and equitable options for digital identity verification through the General Services Administration’s Login.gov, as well as in-person options at U.S. post office locations. So far, 90,000 people have benefited from these expanded identity proofing options in six partner states.

Dynamic Apprenticeship Finder Tool: OCIO has helped to build 10 dashboards, including an interactive map, that show the most up-to-date job positions by industry, audience, geographic region, and other crucial factors, all with the customer experience in mind.

Protecting Retirees

OCIO is dedicated to securing data and updating technology to ensure that workers receive their promised benefits when they reach retirement age.

Enhanced Case Tracking System for Investigating and Preventing Fraud in Pension Plans: We have updated the functionality of this system to support the Department of Labor’s commitment to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Modernized ERISA Filing System: We have included updates to a key form used by businesses to file documents for the Internal Revenue Service and other needs. This ensures that employee benefit plan sponsors can properly process retirement income-related returns at tax time.

Looking Ahead

As we look to 2024, we are excited about the possibilities of expanding our innovative work with emerging technologies. We will continue to share updates and progress through our blog, so stay tuned for more exciting developments. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to serve America’s workforce through technology.
